Meet Steve

Steve Kinard was born and raised in Dallas.  He is a sixth generation Texan on his father’s side. His mother was born in Panama and came to the United States to study, and both parents attended the University of Texas at Dallas.  Steve learned the Spanish language during his visits to his relatives in Panama.

After completing business school in Washington DC, Steve’s entrepreneurial drive led him to Houston where he was part of a team that started with very little and ultimately deployed over $100 Million of capital to produce more American oil and gas, reviving old oilfields in North Texas. This was accomplished through disciplined capital allocation and embracing new technology.

After the birth of their first child, Steve and his wife Kate, moved to be close to family.  Steve took a position in the oil and gas division of a large bank in Dallas, maintaining a focus on supporting American energy independence through his work.  They ultimately made a home in Collin County where they have welcomed two more children to their family.

Steve has always believed that energy is the foundation of a prosperous society and Texas is the global energy leader. After living through Winter Storm Uri, he felt a call to be a part of the solution. Through careful reflection and due diligence, he realized that Texas must increase reliable energy generation, leveraging all available resources. However, the most critical and overlooked opportunity is on the demand side, which has historically seen spikes in demand tied to extreme weather.

Through his work at the Texas Blockchain Council, he has advocated at the Texas Legislature and worked with grid regulators and operators to support energy security and reliability for all Texans through the growth of flexible and price sensitive commercial and industrial users of energy.

He is running to represent the people of House District 70 to ensure future generations enjoy a free, prosperous and secure Texas. Steve has been blessed with 3 young children. He is a proud husband, father, native Texan, Aggie and a principled conservative that will defend and uphold the Texas Bill of Rights.
